Have you ever heard the term “pocket listing?” Pocket listings differ from ‘for sale by owner’ properties. Pocket listings are homes “listed” by an agent, but are not put in the MLS (Multiple Listing Service). The agent works to sell the home through his/her connections. This scenario would be most common when a homeowner is considering selling, but hasn’t quite decided…waiting for the right buyer to come at the right price.
Pocket listings are often frowned upon. If you are looking to sell, the best route is to list your home with the broadest marketing exposure via the MLS.
